A Blog for Vintage Travel Trailer Enthusiasts.
If you like reading about aluminum travel trailers and the thrills & perils of owning one, sit a spell and check this out.
This is the ramblings of a gal who inherited a 1950 Spartan Royal Mansion Travel Trailer. It's 33 feet of sleek aluminum mid-century coolness on wheels.
From making the less-than-thought-out decision to ask my daddy for the trailer, to actually claiming it, there was an 18 month period of working up the courage, the funds, and figuring out how to con my friends into helping me. (Not too hard, actually.) There was also some mostly remotely-done sprucing up, that involved replacing musty interior items and getting her road-worthy.
In June 2010, I hooked the Spartan up to it's accompanying 17-foot 1986 Ford Econoline van (the classic workhorse vehicle of handymen and touring garage bands since time immemorial) and pulled outta my parents driveway in Salem, Oregon. In the pouring rain.
We hauled it 3,105 miles, across the Rocky Mountains, to Houston in a two-week rolling party road trip.
It was so worth it. And now it's about figuring out how to squeeze as much fun outta owning it as possible.
You got anything to add, or just wanna ride along, c'mon. You either Get It or You Don't and if you do, damn, chime in.
